Toddler seats that are compatible with Xtracycle decks

Swoop (Shimano), Stoker (Shimano), or RFA (Shimano or Bosch)

For children 4 and under, we recommend Thule Yepp Nexxt Maxi (rack mounted) seat for the Shimano powered Swoop and Stoker, and the RFA (Shimano or Bosch), as well as any bike equipped with the All-In-One rear rack. These seats can hold a child 9 months (with pediatrician approval) to 6 years old and up to 40 lbs. (US and Canada) / 48.5 lbs. (EU). (Please note: using this seat in the US or Canada with a child that is over 40 lbs. will void the seat’s warranty). Here is what the Thule Yepp Nexxt Maxi looks like along with the other Yepp seats that are not compatible with the rear racks on these bikes.

The Thule Yepp Nexxt Maxi attaches to your Xtracycle all-in-one rear rack by clamping onto the deck. When you turn the dark grey knob, the black curved clamps under the seat tighten until they securely grab onto the deck. No hole needs to be cut in the deck for this type of seat.

What other non-Thule Yepp toddler seats are compatible with these bikes?

Swoop (non-electric / Bosch), Stoker( non-electric / Bosch), Classic (non-electric / Bosch), Leap, Xtracycles with an LT1 version 2 Flight Deck or Xtracycles with LT2 FlightDeck

For children 4 and under, we recommend Thule Yepp Maxi (rack mounted) seat for the Swoop, Stoker, Classic, Leap, Xtracycles with an LT1 version 2 FlightDeck and Xtracycles with an LT2 FlightDeck (with the Xtracycle Yepp adapters). Here is what the Thule Yepp Maxi looks like along with the other Yepp seats that are not compatible with these bikes.

The Thule Yepp Maxi attaches to your Xtracycle LT1 version 2 or LT2 FlightDeck (with Xtracycle Yepp adapters) by sliding into a port cut into the deck and the clamping plate expanding underneath the deck to fit into the port. When you turn the light grey knob, the black mounting plate (shown by the yellow arrow) expands to fit into the port.

What other non-Yepp seats are compatible with the Swoop, Stoker, Classic, Leap, LT1 version 2 FlightDeck and LT2 FlightDeck?

We are not aware of any seat other than the Thule Yepp Maxi (rack mounted) that is compatible with the Swoop, Stoker, Classic, Leap, Xtracycles with LT1 version 2 FlightDecks or Xtracycle with LT2 FlightDecks (with Xtracycle Yepp adapters).

Can your Xtracycle deck have a Thule Yepp Maxi installed on it? Not sure what deck you have? This article should help.

Do I need an adapter for my deck to have a Thule Yepp Maxi installed

The only deck that is Yepp seat compatible that requires an adapter is the LT2 deck. All other decks that are Yepp seat compatible do not require an adapter.

Where on the deck should I install my Yepp seat?

The key to keeping a long tail cargo bike balanced is to center the weight by having the heaviest cargo and passengers sitting closest to the rider. For this reason, here are our recommendations for Yepp seat placement on the deck:

One child in a Yepp seat, no other children on the deck Install the Yepp seat in the front position, closest to the rider
One child in a Yepp seat, an older child or adult riding on the deck Install the Yepp seat in the rear position so the heavier passenger is closest to the rider
Two children in Yepp seats Have the heavier child ride in the Yepp seat closest to the rider

If you sometimes ride with just one child in a Yepp but might need to carry an older child or adult every now and again, we recommend having your deck able to have a Yepp seat moved into either the front or rear position. When that Yepp port is not in use, the hole and or adapter can be covered with a MagicCarpet and the deck will be comfortable enough to accommodate a passenger riding on top.

An important note about Yepp seats in the front position.

You may have noticed that the FlightDeck on all bikes but the RFA is tapered, being wider in the front and tapering to be more narrow in the back. Because of the this, when the Yepp seat is installed in the front position on all bikes but the RFA, the fit is pretty tight and the seat is not as easy to slide onto the deck as it is in the rear position. When fully installed, the Yepp leg holds bow out ever so slightly. This is normal and how the seat fits in that position. This does not effect the functionality of your Yepp seat in any way. To more easily get the seat to install into the front position, we recommend sliding it over the deck further back on the deck. Then start slowly sliding it forward on the deck until you can fit it into the port or Yepp adapter.
