  1. Question

    Dave

Can the RFA utility carry two young kids on the back—two Yepp Next Maxi seats, or 2 other similar seats?

Does the RFA Utility fit a Thule Yepp Maxi Easy Fit child seat? That seems to be the child seat other family cargo bikes use the most.

Hey there, Jason! If you use the Yepp brand Yepp maxi rack adapter, the Maxi can fit on the RFA rear rack. The down side of this is the seat will be higher than if you use the Yepp Nexxt Maxi. Hope that helps!

Hey there, Dave! My co-worker Marie-Claire shared with me that the RFA Utility is not ideal for two rear seats. While the seats can fit, it would be tight for your passengers. She is going to send a picture to your email showing two Yepps on an RFA Utility. She will also be able to help you answer any additional questions. Hope that helps!

Xtracycle is hands down the best cargo bike money can buy. I bought an RFA and it rides like a dream. The Bosch electric assist motor is quiet and the 4 different assist modes are perfect for any type of terrain you encounter, even with carrying groceries, dog and a passenger. The customer support is above 5 stars.

Not just for people with children! The RFA is a great workhorse for any cargo. And for those of us who use city trails to fill the gap of bike lanes, it’s easy to transition from one surface to another…which means more fun time on the bike. Topping it off: that pedal assist is fantastic on my hill climb home.

“I wanted a fast electric bike that I could take on my commute to and from work. My wife was only on board if it had cargo space for taking the kids to the beach on weekends. The RFA Utility was the one and only ebike that had both the class C motor and the cargo room – and so it was decided that that would be the one.

It has lived up to Xtracycle’s promise of quality and utility and significantly improved my commute to work. Obviously the kids love the ride. I’m eager to get my wife on the back and have a celebratory pub crawl.”

Do you have a non e-bike version? The Classic cargo is bigger than what I am looking for.

Hey there, Analisa! Unfortunately the RFA is currently only available in electric. The Swoop might be a bike that would meet your needs. While a longtail, it does have those low step over height like the RFA: https://www.xtracycle.com/product/swoop-xpp/

Let us know if there is anything else we can help with!

  6. Question

    Diane

There are two different step over heights listed for the RFA Utility. In the Geometry Section it is 23.375″ and in the Geometry Comparison it is 22.375″. Please confirm which it is. Thank you.

Hey there, Diane! Apologies for having different numbers in each place. The actual step over is 22.375″. I’ll be sure to update this geometry chart!

      Ashley

Hey there, Ronald! While we do not sell 26″ wheels for the RFA, it is possible to order and replace the stock 24″ wheels with 26″. One of our team mates has 26″ tires on his RFA and he uses 2.5″ Maxxis Hookworms tires. The rims of his wheels have a 24mm inner width. Hope that helps!

Can you add an extra battery to the X1+ if you later decide it is needed?

Hey there, Dave! Great question. It is always possible to purchase a second battery that you can use to replace a drained battery while out on a ride. When not in use, the second battery would just need to be stored in a bag when not in use. Modifying a bike built with one battery cradle to have TWO battery cradles after the initial build is more complicated. Two battery cradles would mean both batteries would be installed on the bike simultaneously and the motor would be pulling charge from both batteries at once. While charging, the bike would be charging both batteries at once. It can be done but will be most costly since you will need to have it done through a licensed Bosch dealer and they will have to open up the motor to rewire the system. If two batteries is something you think you might eventually want, it would be most cost effective and efficient to have at minimum a second cradle installed during the build and you can invest in the actual battery later.

Hope that helps! If you have any follow up questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I myself am a rider who uses two batteries without a second cradle and wish I could go back in time and have that second cradle installed for ease and convenience. I’d be happy to share my thoughts and my experience if that would be useful. You can reach us at support@xtracycle.com!

Hey there, Sean! Apologies for your question slipping through the cracks! While we don’t have a specific weight limit for the UtilityRack, we do know that our bikes have a max weight load of 400 lbs. including the weight of the rider. I hope that helps!
