This guide goes over how to install a Thule Yepp Maxi or Yepp Maxi EasyFit seat on an LT1 version 2 Flight deck. You will need to cut a rectangular hole, referred to as a port, for the Yepp seat base to install into. These decks are typically used for FreeRadicals, Radishes, older EdgeRunners, and Surly Big Dummy bikes.

What this manual covers:

1. Do you have an LT1 version 2 FlightDeck?

2. Seats that work on this deck

3. Where should I cut the port if I’m only installing one Yepp seat – front or back?

4. When I remove the Yepp, can a child still ride on top of the deck with the port cut?

PRE-INSTALLATION

1. Do you have an LT1 version 2 FlightDeck?

For more details on deck identification, see this guide here.

If you have an LT1 version 2 FlightDeck, this guide is for you! No additional Yepp adapters are needed as this was the only deck that did not require one.

If you have a SnapDeck, you cannot safely install a Yepp seat on this deck and need to replace it with an LT1 v.2 FlightDeck and 8 Superhooks.

If you have an LT1 version 1 FlightDeck, the necessary adapter to install a Yepp on this deck is no longer available. You will need to replace it with an LT1 v.2 FlightDeck and 8 Superhooks.

If you have an LT2 FlightDeck, you need a front or rear Xtracycle Yepp Adapter and these guides here (front) and here (rear).

2. Seats that work on this deck.

We only recommend Thule Yepp Maxi seats for our bikes. The Thule Yepp Maxi (previous called the Yepp MaxiEasy Fit) meant for rear bike racks is the only seat that is compatible. Notice the gray knob under the seat:

The Thule Yepp Maxi for bike seat posts will not work on this deck. Note that there is no grey knob under.

The Thule Yepp Nexxt Maxi will also not work on this deck.  Note that there is no grey knob under the seat.

Yepp use to make the Yepp Junior EasyFit. This was a minimalist seat intended for children 4 years and up, up to 77 lb. Yepp no longer makes this seat but it can still be found from various vendors online. Typically Xtracycle users do not use this seat since the Hooptie is the best option for children 4 years old and up on the rear deck.

3. Where should I cut the port if I’m only installing one Yepp seat?

If riding with only one child in a Yepp seat, the front position, closest to the rider and on the wider half of the deck, is best to maintain balance. If riding with an older child on the deck and a younger child in a Yepp seat, the rearmost position and on the more narrow end of the deck is best for the Yepp seat. Keeping the weight as centered as possible on your cargo bike is a great way to keep the bike balanced and easier to handle. So you want to keep heavier things on the rear deck closest to the rider.

4. When I remove the Yepp, can a child still ride on top of the deck with the port cut?

The deck will still be usable even with the port cutout if a MagicCarpet padded seat cushion is installed over the deck. This will both cover the hole and provide a comfortable place for passengers to sit on the back deck.
