With all the awesome options out there for kiddo bike seats, this is a question we get often. Ashley here from the Support Team with the definitive “Yepp” or “Nope” on what bike seats will fit on Xtracycle brand decks.

This guide covers these common questions:
1. What Yepp seat is compatible with the deck on my Swoop, Classic, Stoker or Leap kit?

2. What Yepp seat is compatible with my RFA?

3. What Yepp seat is compatible with my older EdgeRunner, FreeRadical, or Radish?

4. What Yepp seats are NOT compatible with any Xtracycle?

5. How to identify what Xtracycle deck is on your bike.

6. Does my deck require a Yepp seat adapter?

7. What about seats for kiddos 4+ years old or 48.5+ lbs.?

8. What’s the difference between the Thule Yepp Maxi and the Yepp Maxi EasyFit?

9. Are any non-Yepp seats compatible with Xtracycle decks?

1. What Yepp seat is compatible with the deck on my Swoop, Classic, Stoker or Leap kit?

The EdgeRunner Swoop, Classic and Stoker and the Leap kit come with a plastic LT2 FlightDeck. The rack-mounted Thule Yepp Maxi (previously called the Yepp Maxi Easy Fit) is the only seat that is compatible with these LT2 FlightDecks. A Yepp adapter is required for safe installation of a Thule Yepp Maxi on an LT2 Flight deck. The Yepp Maxi is not compatible with the RFA MultiRack (see next section: “2. What Yepp seat is compatible with the RFA Sport and RFA Utility”).

These seats can hold a child as young as 9 months (with pediatrician approval) to as old as 6 years or no more than 48.5 lbs.

This seat works by sliding into a hole cut into the deck. You then turn a light grey knob to enlarge the front and rear expander (located underneath the seat) that clamps the seat into that hole and the Yepp seat adapter. You can see how the Thule Yepp Maxi (rack-mounted) seat installs and differs from the Nexxt Maxi in the Thule Yepp Maxi (rack-mounted) installation video here.

2. What Yepp seat is compatible with my RFA?

The Xtracycle RFA comes with a Sport MultiRack or a Utility MultiRack. These MultiRacks have a metal deck permanently attached. The Thule Yepp Nexxt Maxi is the only Yepp seat that is compatible with this metal deck. No Yepp seat adapter or additional adapter is required to install a Yepp Nexxt Maxi on the RFA Multirack.

These seats can hold a child 9 months (with pediatrician approval) to 6 years or no more than 48.5 lbs..

This seat works with left and right clamps underneath the seat that tighten to fit on top of rear bike rack or Xtracycle deck. To install the seat, you place the seat directly onto the deck. You then turn a small black knob that tightens the side clamps to grab the sides of the deck. You can see how the Thule Yepp Maxi (rack-mounted) seat installs and differs from the Nexxt Maxi in the Thule Yepp Nexxt Maxi installation video here.

3. What Yepp seat is compatible with my older EdgeRunner, FreeRadical, or Radish?

*In order for a Yepp seat to be installed an older EdgeRunner model, FreeRadical or Radish, you want to ensure you have either an LT1 version 2 FlightDeck or an LT2 FlightDeck. If you aren’t sure what deck is on your bike, please scroll down to: “5. How to identify what Xtracycle deck is on your bike.”

The rack-mounted Thule Yepp Maxi (previously called the Yepp MaxiEasy Fit) is the only seat that is compatible with the LT1 version 2 or LT2 FlightDeck. A Yepp adapter is required for safe installation of a Thule Yepp Maxi on an LT2 Flight deck. No Yepp adapter is required for the LT1 version 2 FlightDeck.

These seats can hold a child as young as 9 months (with pediatrician approval) to as old as 6 years or no more than 48.5 lbs.

This seat works by sliding into a hole cut into the deck. You then turn a light grey knob to enlarge the front and rear expander (located underneath the seat) that clamps the seat into that hole. 4. What Yepp seats are NOT compatible with any Xtracycle?

The Thule Yepp Maxi (frame-mounted), Thule RideAlong and Thule RideAlong Lite will not work on any Xtracycle deck.

5. How can I tell what Xtracycle deck I have?

If you have a SnapDeck or LT1 version 1 FlightDeck, you will simply need to replace this deck with an LT1 v.2  FlightDeck and 8 Superhooks.

6. Does my deck require a Yepp seat adapter?

If you have n RFA with an RFA MultiRack, you do not need a Yepp adapter. Your seat installs directly onto the deck.

If you have an LT1 version 2 FlightDeck, no additional Yepp adapters are needed. The seat installs into a hole you cut into the deck. You just need to ensure you have 8 total Superhooks securing your deck to the V-racks.

If you have an LT2 FlightDeck, you need a front or rear Xtracycle Yepp Adapter. The seat installs into the adapter and a hole cut into the deck.

If you have a SnapDeck, you cannot safely install a Yepp seat on this deck and no  adapter will make it compatible so you will need to replace it with an LT1 v.2  FlightDeck and 8 Superhooks.

If you have an LT1 version 1 FlightDeck, the necessary adapter to install a Yepp on this deck is no longer available so you will need to replace it with an LT1 v.2  FlightDeck and 8 Superhooks.

7. What about seats for kiddos 4+ years old or 48.5+ lbs.?

Yepp use to make the Yepp Junior EasyFit. This was a minimalist seat intended for children 4 years and up, or up to 77 lbs. Yepp no longer makes this seat but it can still be found from a handful of vendors online. This seat was only compatible with the LT1 version 2 or LT2 FlightDeck. Typically Xtracycle users do not use this seat since the Hooptie is the best option for children 4 years old and up on the rear deck.

8. What’s the difference between the Thule Yepp Maxi and the Yepp Maxi EasyFit?

The Thule Yepp Maxi and the Yepp MaxiEasy Fit are the same seat, the only difference is what year they were made. Yepp use to be owned by the Dutch Company GMG B.V. In 2016, the Swedish based Thule Group (aka: Thule) bought the Yepp seat and added the word Thule and remove the word “EasyFit” from the seat title, but the seat is otherwise unchanged. Some online retailers still have pre-2016 seats for sale so they are still labeled at the Yepp Maxi EasyFit.

9. Are any non-Yepp seats compatible with Xtracycle decks?

Most Xtracycle bikes are only compatible with Yepp seats. We do not recommend installing another brand of seat on our decks since we cannot attest to their level of safety.

The RFA MultiRack is also compatible with Hamax Caress and the Qibbel Air.
