PeaPod Pilots Soar!
This past September we offered families worldwide a chance to get Radish, our complete longtail family bike, plus our new child bicycle seat, PeaPod LT, for a handsome discount. In exchange for the discount, we asked our PeaPod Pilots to share their experiences with us using words, photos and videos. We're excited to share their feedback with you below.
PeaPod Pilot Video Contest
Congratulations to Kate Oshea for her video Not Big Enough. Our judges loved the superb acting, simple message and old time style.
Amongst a handful of great videos, two more stood out. Each of these two runner up , in its own way, captures the every day adventure, fun and joy of riding an Xtracycle. Congratulations to Jason Monberg for Monsagers v. Radish/PPLT and Phil Boutelle for Dan P and the Bricks "Mess It Up" with Des T and the Xtracycle.

The best part is that it makes getting there the most enjoyable part of the outing; I never hear so many laughs from the back seat of the car.
Cath Mok – Melbourne, Australia
The kids brim with enthusiasm at the thought of a trip somewhere on it together, and I look forward to whatever the day brings. We get a lot out of the journey, and in life, the journey is what living is all about.
Dee Macey – San Francisco
“The minivan of bikes.” A happier trip.
David Gray – Washington DC
Living and cycling in the DC area requires that your bike is suitable for urban riding conditions, including parallel-parked cars, narrow streets, pedestrians, heavy traffic, and poor road conditions. As such, utility bikes such as the Radish increase the ability of the user to ride more comfortably and safely. This is even more true for cyclists with children. The low center of gravity, relatively narrow width, and substantial storage capability make the Radish extremely useful. For our purposes, this includes trips to the grocery store, the park, or just out for fun. Many of the trips we've taken with the Radish would not have been possible with our trailer--it's simply too wide for the urban riding.

I was never so scared I would not like something. Sight unseen I had spent over a thousand dollars. And I had not been on a bike in 5 years and now I was going to ride around with the two most precious things in my life right behind me. I think I was crazy to wish this on myself. For a few nights I did not sleep, kicking myself for my stupid enthusiasm. I thought I would fall over for sure, the girls would hate me forever.
Well, lets just say after three days of riding we were in control and riding high. Strength and confidence came with time and creativity(and a cruiser seat). We are doing things one month later I would have never dreamed of in October. By next summer, who knows. The girls love the bike. They talk and shout and laugh and smile. I smile and wave and laugh and shout. We are park hopping, riding to school fools and we love it. The car stays home 50% more. We get cat calls from preschoolers, "Cool bike" and from his buddy, "Call me." Friggin' hilarious. Thank you for all these things.

Riding a Radish is transformative. My wife, Phoebe, and I had hoped that the Radish would change how our family lived our lives – after all, the advertisements said that it would – but we didn’t guess how joyous that change would be. It is said that you can’t recreate the wonder of riding a bicycle for the first time. Maybe that’s true. But, stepping onto the Radish, we came close.
Mercy Rome – Seattle
Are we famous or what? On our Xtracycle everyone checks us out. Passersby pause to investigate our cool ride. All the attention paired with the great parking…I feel like a celebrity. A mama with celebrity and freedom!
Todd Schermer – Elmhurst, Illinois
Can never go back to a bike trailer. Radish and PeaPod is so much easier (and safer!) to use and ride. Plus, my 18 month old is more comfortable and enjoys it more than the trailer. No more hooking the trailer up to a bike.
