Keep-out spaces for accessories
From Open Source LongTail Technology
Several spaces must be left open for various accessories.
- Top of V-rack ports must be clear for 1 inch (25.4mm), or else should incorporate a brazed-on seat post style clamp. This space is reserved for the Whatchamacollar clamp. A braze-on clamp will replace the Whatchamacollar’s stiffening action, and it is recommended that provisions be made for waterproofing.
- Be aware that some space may need to be left below the Snap Deck to accomodate storage or accessories. There is no precise keep-out area for this, but try to avoid tubes that come near the Snap Deck, as they may interfere with accessories.
- Any tubes running from the Front Bridge to the bottom bracket should be no larger than the profile shown. The lower half is the area of concern for the Kickback kickstand. larger tubes may be used that approximate the lower profile of the tube shown.
- Tire clearance should accommodate a 3” semi-slick 26” tire such as the Maxxis Hookworm. The maximum radius of the tire should accommodate a 700c x 37mm tire, or the inside dimension between the Front and Rear Bridges, 705mm.
- Footsie tubes should make a gentle arc away from the front bridge, allowing bulky accessories like the Kickback to have ample clearance. For welding clearance, place the root of the tube away from the edge of the front bridge, about 5mm or more.
