Light and maneuverable, your FreeRadical-equipped bike will forever change your cycling experience. Go wherever you want, whenever you want, while carrying any necessity or frivolity that strikes your fancy. And once your bike is set up, you’ll be able to tour with no special gear, picnic across town with a moment’s preparation, take your kids to school, or take your guitar for a lesson, all on a single bike, all while making your body healthy and beautiful.
The FreeRadical comes with everything needed for seamlessly adding a trunk and a backseat to your bicycle. It is an attachment for your bicycle that deftly shifts your rear wheel back 15 inches and transforms your existing bike into an Xtracycle.
The Xtracycle modular rack system that connects to the FreeRadical allows you to customize your Xtracycle to your specific needs. The base FreeRadical frame comes with cables, chain and installation parts, but leaves your accessorization options wide open. Alternately you can make your own custom load-carrying system out of conduit and 2×4’s, or whatever you have lying around.

Tubing
Our tubing is TIG-welded Cro-Moly Steel.
Dropouts
Custom, forged vertical Xtracycle dropouts provide excellent durability and stiffness. (What about singlespeeds and internal hubs?)
Brakes
The FreeRadical has disc-brake mounts (for a 203mm rotor) and brake bosses for linear pull brakes (also known as V-brakes). If your bike doesn’t already have either of those, they can be purchased from your local bike shop or ordered from us. More info about brakes.
Weight
The FreeRadical base frame weighs approximately 5 pounds. Accessories weigh roughly a pound each: e.g. 2 FreeLoaders plus 2 V-racks equals an additional 4 pounds.
Wheelbase
The FreeRadical adds 15″ to your bicycle’s wheelbase. On an average mountain bike, this equates to an approximately 58″ overall wheelbase.
Footprint
The FreeRadical-equipped bicycle can be stood on end against the wall in cramped apartments, taking up less room than a regular bike.
Payload Capacity
This is generally limited by your imagination, legs, and the strength of your rear wheel. The FreeRadical is officially rated to 150lbs total cargo weight.
Wheel Size Compatibility
The FreeRadical can accommodate either 26″ or 700C wheels.
Kickstand
A durable, high quality aluminum comes standard with the FreeRadical kit.
Cables
We include high quality cables (stainless steel) and housings with Avid Roll-a-MajigTM for smooth & reliable shifting.
Chain
Thirty inches of KMC 8-speed chain comes standard, and is the precise length needed to extend your original chain. Other types and lengths of chain are available when required.
Fenders
The FreeRadical has fender eyelets behind each dropout and at the front of the wheel well.
FreeLoaders
These are constructed of coated, durable nylon and are water resistant. The FreeLoaders are not waterproof; they are intended to hold waterproof dry bags in wet weather or touring situations.
SnapDeck
The SnapDeck is constructed from oak, ash and/or maple laminate, silkscreened with the Xtracycle logo and design. This component is not intended to be weather resistant.
Hardware
We use stainless steel throughout for rust protection and strength.
Racks
These are constructed of aluminum 6061-6 hard-anodized tubing for durable, light-weight, modular utility.
Warranty
The FreeRadical frame is warranted for the lifetime of the product while with the original owner. Components are warranted for one year. Click here for complete warranty info.
