Personalize Your Ride

The stock FreeRadical kit gives you what you need to get up and go with a load: voluminous bags and a stable loading platform to handle most any bundle, briefcase or box you need to move. But when it comes to huge, specialized, or live loads, it always makes you confident to have the exact accessory for doing the job right.

We use and abuse our Xtracycles every day and have plenty of saddle time to imagine new gizmos. While it’s tempting to build special attachments for every special job, we prefer to make just a handful of classic parts that can adapt to most any circumstance. Every accessory we make fits at least one of these three criteria:

* Increases load capacity or ease of loading
* Increases safety or comfort
* Raises the bicycle lifestyle to new heights

WideloaderWideLoaderTM: Limitless Loading

The WideLoader is a transformative tool. If you want the freedom to quickly strap on and haul any load the day throws your way, it’s for you.

Without it, your Xtracycle is a bike with extended cargo capacity. Think station wagon. Great for the stuff of life: luggage, laundry, groceries, lunch, a change of clothes, kids, kids’ toys, messenger bag, etc.

“In 10 years as a cargo bike messenger, I’ve ridden it all: trikes, long hauls, quads, monster trailers. The Xtracycle is my favorite just for its sheer versatility.”
-Warren

But with a pair of WideLoaders, your Xtracycle becomes a serious high-performance, if-you-can-lift-it-you-can-carry-it cargo machine. Think light truck with a contractor’s rack. The possibilities open wide up: huge box, pushmower, recycling, cooler, 50 pound bag of dog food, 50 pound dog, extra bike, keg, propane, gardening supplies, and firewood bundles; and of course you’d use the WideLoader to haul the t.v. to the dump (er, recycling station).

The WideLoader gives you a flat loading surface and a very low center of gravity, which enhances stability. It’s also adjustable so you can narrow your profile for tight spaces, or increase your loading surface for the biggest loads.

If you want to increase your hauling capacity to the max, get two of these nylon-slung horizontal 6061 aluminum racks. For many folks, just one will do for the occasional big box or bulky thing. They weigh 16 ounces, have a 60-pound payload rating, and install and remove in seconds without know-how or tools.

An Accessory’s Accessory: the LongLoaderTMLongloader

If you want to carry ladders, 2×4s, kayaks, surfboards, kiteboards, masts, skis, conduit, or any other load longer than three feet or so, you’ll want to supe up your WideLoader with her buddy, the LongLoader. This aluminum standoff bar pushes your freight outside of your pedal zone and creates one of the Xtracycle’s quintessential advantages over other cargo bikes: the ability to carry long loads parallel to the bike, and down low out of the wind.

Carrying a long load by your side instead of towing it behind you means you’re only as long as your load instead of as long as your bike plus your load. You’ll really appreciate this shortness in congested areas and in the wind.

The LongLoader adjusts with an Allen wrench and slides in place without tools. It requires a WideLoader to work (sold separately) and can be used on one side or both. 5.4 ounces.

FootsiesFootsiesTM

To experience Xtracycle love at its peak, go beyond riding to work, beyond shopping, beyond touring, beyond carrying big wacky loads: carry a friend.

When you carry a passenger, the terrain becomes a magic playground for the two of you to share. You can talk in regular voices, your passenger can signal while you change lanes, read the map and navigate while you steer, or massage your shoulders while you pedal; you and your passenger move as one. Whether you cruise on a one-bike date, or just happen to bump into a friend who needs a 10-block lift, you want your passenger to feel safe and be comfortable.

Footsies are the compact, comfortable, foot-shaped platforms that make that happen. Though you can install them in 15 seconds, we recommend keeping them always on, as a constant invitation for a passenger to come for a spin. When a passenger-to-be sees your Footsies, she knows what they’re for and she wants to ride. They look safe, made to be used, and like a whole lotta fun.

Made of fancy plywood and aluminum, they’re the most popular Xtracycle accessory. They’ll expand your world and forever change what you think a bicycle is good for.

Read what one hedonistic customer had to say about Footsies:

Here in Davis, the police treat bicycles just like cars and it’s not uncommon to get pulled over for rolling through a stop sign, not being properly lighted at night, and, yes, bicycling under the influence. So now when I get pulled over for having a passenger on my Xtracycle, I just point to my Footsies and say, “It’s okay, officer, this is designed for passengers. It even comes with footrests. See?”

Noteworthy passengers so far have included:

  • My wife
  • My boyfriend
  • My boyfriend’s girlfriend
  • My mother
  • My mother-in-law (”Well, Gigi, MY mother rode on it and was okay…”)
  • My boss’ boss
  • The hottie at the running shoe store
  • BOTH hotties at the bike shop

PeapodPeaPodTM - The Bike Seat that Grows with Your Child …And with Your Family

Your child needs bigger clothes every time you turn around, but that doesn’t mean you should have to buy another kid seat every six months. By combining the Xtracycle with the Xtracycle PeaPod bicycle child seat, you get a solution that starts working when your kid hits twenty pounds and keeps working even when she’s old enough to ride her own bike on any adventure.

The PeaPod is an easy-on/off kid carrier that parents have described as “lower profile, lighter, more durable and prettier than the other seats I’ve looked at, not to mention way more balanced-feeling while riding.” When your little one hits 55 pounds (compare that to a 40 pound max with other brands) and outgrows the PeaPod, she’ll be ready to ride on your Xtracycle’s SnapDeck (don’t forget the Footsies for keeping her safe and comfortable).

I had great fun last night on the way home from picking up a big load of veggies with Carl aboard. Joined a roadie commuter at a light, and passed him. He caught me, huffing at the next light. He was going balls out, and I was just keeping up, not wanting to look like I was working too hard. Carl was yelling, “Faster daddy!” Roadie kept looking back, shaking his head to see me 15′ behind. I passed him uphill after a mile or so, protesting, “No fair! - where’s your kid and groceries?”

TraybienTrayBien

The TrayBien forever changes the bike-on-bike landscape, allowing you to transport a bike, or two, on the back of your Xtracycle. The system works just like a roofrack on a car, except it’s lower so you don’t have to stand on your tiptoes and get your shirt dirty rubbing up against the roof.

Oh, and you don’t need the car either, for that matter.
