The Longtail Kit includes two V-racks, two Freeloader bags, and one Snap Deck. It's intended to be the accessory kit for the FreeRadical Base, the Radish, the Big Dummy and other longtail bikes built on the Xtracycle standard. This is the kit to get to upgrade a base FreeRadical frame to a complete FreeRadical kit - and then onto your existing bike.
Freeloader bags are open ended and expandable to swallow backpacks and guitars, they hang flat and out of the slipstream when not needed. Buckle configuration allows for over-the-top loading, too.
Mesh ends keep your tomatoes and flip-flops from getting lost. Made of coated nylon for durability and weight saving. Has two pockets on the inner panel: a large Velcro enclosed pocket for a rain coat, pump or sweater and a small mesh pocket for tools, coins, etc. The material (600d nylon with three layers of PU coating) is water and abrasion resistant.
The Freeloaders will hold about three grocery bags on each side. Or an expedition-size backpack. The mesh ends fold out of the way, so you can carry home that stuffed marlin you found on the side of the street.

Last week, George found a stash of original style bags in a dark, dusty corner of the warehouse and we want to move them out (don't worry, the bags aren't dusty, just the corner...and George). Because these bags are discontinued, you can get them now for $53/pair less than the current style! What's the difference you ask? Well, the old style bags become tensioned by simply wrapping around your frame, instead of clipping onto hardware found on new FreeRadicals. While the strapping approach proved to be strong and reliable, we simply saw too many Xtracycles with the straps incorrectly mounted causing the FreeLoader not to work properly. The new technology is more user friendly, and just as sturdy. To understand the difference between the Classic FreeLoader and the new ones, take a look at the image above with the side by side of the straps. Other than these straps, there's no difference. Same great material, same mesh ends, same reflective tabs at the rear.
If you select the "Classic LongTail Kit", you will get the classic straps, which loop around the FreeRadical frame. There's nothing wrong with this method, in fact some prefer it to the new.
If you select the 2007 "LongTail Kit," you will get the same racks, deck and bags, but the bags will be equipped with straight straps and a little plastic piece sewn on the end which fits over braze-on mounted hardware on newer FreeRadical frames.
Classic LongTail Kits are perfectly compatible with newer FreeRadicals, but 2007 LongTail Kits will not work on older FreeRadicals. The cutoff for FreeRadical/LongTail compatibility are FreeRads sold after June 2008. You can do a quick check to see if you have braze on holes (threaded holes) on all four of your FreeRadical uprights (the tubes where the V-racks slide in). If you do, then you have a newer FreeRad (sorry, we don't have a better name than that!).
The classic LongTail kit is becoming obsolete, hence the discount.
